(PaPaPa, AbAbAb, Ho, LLL, VVV, SSS, NN, AA, DDD, MMM) Very strong amoral pagan worldview of extremely violent revenge, plus Jesus Christ is mocked by evil and there’s a reference to “sodomites” more than 200 obscenities and profanities, plus a shot of a picture of Jesus with his eyes crossed out mockingly extremely gory and bloody violence includes hand chopped up by lawnmower, decapitations, beatings with baseball bats, villains burn a school bus with children in it, attempted rapes, men pay bums to get beaten viciously on camera, men force bum to eat broken glass for $20, villains flaunt a child’s corpse, bodies pulverized to goo by cars and industrial press machines, evisceration scene, protagonist shoots countless criminals with massive shotgun, villain carves word “scum” on man’s chest, doctor stabbed with sword torture, mutilation, etc. HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN will make anyone with a shred of humanity, not just Christians, feel unclean enough to want to shower immediately. Every imaginable, depraved violation of the human body and spirit unfolds relentlessly across its running time. HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN is an attempt to revive the ultra-sleazy, mega-violent “grindhouse” movie genre that filled decrepit urban theatres during the 1970s and ’80s. From there, it’s a relentless series of vigilante and revenge scenes, interspersed with the horrible crimes the bad guys perform in order to motivate the revenge. The Hobo just wants to buy a lawnmower and establish a business cutting grass but instead buys a shotgun when armed robbers attack the pawnshop he’s chosen to make his purchase. He then follows a young prostitute she leaves with a client, and the Hobo steps in to save her when it becomes clear she’s in danger of being killed. The Hobo sees numerous murders occur in vicious fashion. Drake controlling all the law enforcement is not plausible, and obviously, the summoning of ‘The Plague’ could never really happen, but it fits the film and the whole medieval tone in this movie well.In the exploitation flick HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN, the aforementioned hobo arrives in Hope Town, which is overrun by a crime lord and his sons, plus an utterly corrupt police force. ![]() Most of the violence is fake and exaggerated. The director also chose to make this film more toward the formalism side of realism to the formalism scale, and this is apparent throughout the movie. White could also symbolize power and success, and having the black dress shirt could symbolize deep down that Drake is the root of all evil in Hope Town. The color white usually symbolizes purity, and it’s ironic because villains are not traditionally associated with being pure human beings. The villains are all well-dressed in white and black. The director chose interesting clothing options for the villains in the film as well. Even though the hobo meets his demise in this fight, the peasants finally rally behind him and turn on the ‘king’ and his ‘knights.’ ![]() You have the king, which is Drake, the knights, in this case, are the cops that serve the king, and then the peasants who are all the poor and less fortunate people led by the hobo. ![]() Towards the end of the film, there is a final fight scene where the hobo goes against Drake, and it resembles a medieval revolution. At the start of the movie, when the hobo rides into town, we see the sign with scum town written on it and right under it says, ‘Where the railway ends, and Hell begins!’ This associates Hope Town with being the last place anyone wants to go, and nothing good happens there. Also, this film has lots of graffiti linking this town to hell. His sons could represent demons and carry out the ‘devils’ work. He even kills his brother at the beginning of the film in front of a bunch of townspeople.
