![]() ![]() ![]() I fritzed with Scrivener, but Notebooks is a great place to collect all my notes, references, illustrations, etc. My central container is Circus Ponies Notebooks. I'm not sure what I'd gain by going from iThoughtsX to OmniOutliner? Yes, I go from iThoughtsX right into my "bucket" app then on to my text editor (Ulysses in my case). One possible advantage to OmniOutliner is that I can finish my mind map for an outline, and then export to OO, and then add lots of text notes (e.g., stuff from Accordance User Notes) without it being as bulky as I imagine it would be in a mind map program (even allowing that mind map apps have notes popovers). Recently used essential tools have been: Accordance (of course), Ulysses (awesome, but I have mixed feelings about markdown-and it's not on iPhone yet), Scrivener (amazing in every way-but no iOS yet), MindNode (cross-platform for Apple and excellent), and Nisus Writer Pro (but no iOS) or Mellel (with new iPad app) for the manuscript writing. Will do-I've been tweaking my workflow again recently, too. I'm just getting ready to step back into a parish and have been working on nailing down my workflow for exegesis and preaching. I'm anxious to see if you think it brings anything to your workflow that you can't get from a good mind mapping app. Please do post your experiences with OmniOutliner. OmniOutliner feels to me like a left-brain tool and I guess my preaching could use a lot more right brain stimulation. My left-brain and my right-brain are at war when it comes to preaching, but I'm really liking the visual representation you get from a mindmap which, for me, encourages the right-brain stuff.Word does this soooooo well, why can't a dedicated outlining app do it? I know that sounds small, but its one of the big things an outliner should do, attach an appropriate (for me Cambridge) numbering sequence to an outline. You can't restart a numbering sequence in OmniOutliner. Why do that when Dropbox works great.and of course iThoughtsX can use Dropbox? The sync to iOS isn't relies on Omni's custom sync engine.I had a couple of niggles in OmniOutliner that kept me looking: iThoughtx has great import and export functionality and bridges to and from my plain text workflow.įor me, OmniOutliner wasn't needed once I discovered iThoughtsX ability to export a map as OPML and its fairly robust numbering feature which means that a file coming out of iThoughtsX looks just like a file coming from OmniOutliner once it lands in plain text. In the end, the ability to work visually with structure makes the extra workflow tool a reasonable solution for me. Folding Texts is as close as I've come to a markdown editor that might work for a sermon outliner. On the other hand, a markdown editor that could do outlining (yes, I know I can do it with headers but that ends up being an ugly solution and the auto-numbering tools are all clunky) and roll up outline details would make for a much simpler workflow. Rolling up the mindmap to its major points makes a great set of notes for preaching with an iPad. For a pure outliner, I'm not sure Word's outline tools can be beat, but for laying out a sermon or an article, iThoughts is much more flexible for me. I find iThoughtsX more flexible than OmniOutliner as an outliner let alone the ability to restructure using drag and drop and simple roll-up functionality. REQUIREMENTS: OS X 10.In another context I've shared my appreciation for mindmapping software as contrasted against various outlining tools on OSX and iOS. ![]() Having said all of that, Viveza is not one of the strongest components of the Nik Collection. Conclusionsįor those used to the precise, controlled world of selections and masks, Viveza’s control points might feel vague and unsatisfactory, but if you stick with it and you’re prepared to work in a looser, more intuitive way, you may start to see the benefits. I started off with one of the new presets, then used a series of Control Points to darken the bright background, then three grouped Control Points to add contrast, brightness and structure to the iron furnace, center. Here’s a more complex set of Viveza adjustments. The new luminance and chrominance masking sliders let you refine your control point selections still further, but I’m not a big fan of the relocation of the adjustment sliders to the sidebar. When I’ve used it I’ve found myself creating effects that I wouldn’t have thought of producing in another program, purely because the control point adjustment method has led me to approach the process more intuitively.Īnd while, individually, control points can look like a somewhat crude and imprecise way of selecting and adjusting areas of a picture, when they’re used together and, in particular, when you use two ‘competing’ control points close together, they do actually produce very precise and natural-looking tonal transitions around object edges. But if you take a little more trouble, create groups of adjustments and start experimenting with ‘relighting’ your photos, you start to understand what Viveza can do.Īrguably, there’s nothing here that you couldn’t do with layers and masks in Photoshop or local adjustments in PhotoLab, Lightroom or Capture One, but Viveza encourages you to visualise and build your adjustments in a different way. You can add a single control point, make a couple of adjustments and wonder what all the fuss is about. Viveza’s strength only emerges gradually. However, it seems to suffer from the same glitch as Silver Efex Pro, where it sometimes opens in plug-in mode even when launched separately, making it impossible to open and save files. Like the rest of the Nik Collection plug-ins, Viveza 3 works as a plug-in for Lightroom and Photoshop and DxO PhotoLab, but can also be used as a standalone program. In Vizeza 3 you can now create and apply presets and, as with Silver Efex Pro 3, you can save Control Point adjustments within a preset. These last two adjustments are not quite how they sound, since you’re already working with a processed TIFF or JPEG image and there’s no additional color or tonal information to recover like there is with a RAW file. Outside of these control points, the only controls is a global levels/curve adjustment and new White Balance and Selective Tones adjustments (Highlights, Midtones, Shadows, Blacks). That brief description describes pretty much everything Viveza does. You can duplicated control points and their settings and group control points so that they act as one – it’s a way of adjusting large and complex areas quickly. With each one you can adjust Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Structure, Shadow Adjustment, Warmth, Red, Green and Blue and Hue. The control points in Viveza are more sophisticated than those in the other Nik plug-is, however. Another new feature of Viveza 3 is the one-click presets in the left sidebar. Here I’ve been able to lighten the center pot to match the tone and color of the pots either side. Each Control Point has a button to display its mask, and you can use the new Chrominance and Luminance sliders to target the tones you want to adjust precisely. How does it work? Viveza 3 uses Control Points for local adjustments. The best way to think of Viveza is as the colour equivalent of the dodging and burning tools you might use in black and white.īut DxO says that Viveza is one of the collection’s most popular plug-ins and, along with Silver Efex Pro, has given it a big upgrade for the Nik Collection 4 release, adding in new presets, more advanced Control Point masking with Luminance and Chrominance sliders, and a new interface which shifts the local adjustments to the sidebar instead of having them attached to the Control Points themselves. This was always a bit of an odd addition to the Nik Collection in that it didn’t have any creative presets, just the same Control Point adjustments found throughout the Nik Collection suite. Viveza 3 is a major update of Viveza, the Nik Collection’s color adjustment plug-in. ![]() In fact, it stacks up nicely to the competition. The third special bonus was a look at the final moments of the roast, which featured a confrontation between the Iron Sheik and Brian Blair. Scott Hall had clearly fallen off the wagon on this night. As inappropriate as the joke might have been, Hall’s reaction was also out of line, and he nearly spent the night in jail because of it. God bless Scott Hall, he was the only one who stood up and tried to make this filthy son of a bitch eat his words. It seems one of the unknown comedians thought he could get over in a room full of wrestlers by making a joke about the late Owen Hart and the tragic event that took his life. This was edited out of the main show on disc one. Next they showed all of the footage from Scott Hall’s controversial interruption which put an abrupt halt to the program. They showed some backstage footage of some of the stuff that happened before and after the event. The second disc of this 2-disc set featured a couple important extras. There was a small cast of legitimate, or should I say unknown, comedians who also spoke – providing some of the biggest laughs of the night. One unadvertised wrestler caused a major uproar when he made himself apart of the show, but I’ll have more on that later. There were numerous well-known wrestlers sitting in the audience, although some did not appear on camera. Brian Blair, who the Sheik has publicly berated for years, joined in the festivities as well. Bob Backlund were just a few of the Sheik’s friends who were asked to take part. Bill Apter, King Kong Bundy, Don Muraco, Nikolai Volkoff, Adnan El-Kassie, and the legendary Mr. The guest line-up was actually quite impressive, considering how many legends agreed to participate in this event. It was open season on the Iron Sheik’s personal and professional career and the hits just kept on coming. To his credit, the Sheik sat there next to the podium all night long and took it like a man. With a tag line “Someone’s Getting Humbled,” you just can’t go wrong. Ring Roasts 1, A Comedic Tribute to The Iron Sheik, was just awesome. Anybody who has seen these TV programs knows just how brutally offensive the content can get so if you don’t have thick skin, don’t stand too close to the barbeque. Recent roasts featured on Comedy Central (correct me if I’m wrong) featured Pamela Anderson, William Shatner, Flava Flav, and Jeff Foxworthy. ![]() For some people it would be a nightmare come true, but in the best case scenario, it is truly an honor to be roasted. The comedic ROAST goes way back the golden era of Hollywood, where celebrities would gather for black-tie banquets to both praise and embarrass the heck out of a colleague. It seems like a perfect fit for all the unorthodox characters that wrestling has to offer. ![]() Upon watching the latest DVD release from Kayfabe Commentaries, I had to ask myself the following question why did it take the world of professional wrestling so long to embrace the roast concept.
